Guys, Netflix will be taking down Leverage on November 2nd, so if you or people you know haven’t watched it yet, GO WATCH IT!

Seriously go watch Leverage. It’s awesome.

Leverage is the perfect inter-genre show that nobody knows exists – I saw it referenced in every single fandom I’ve been in for years before I gave it a try….simply because I’m not into ‘funny shows.’  I mean, a serious show that’s occasionally funny, fine.  But a show that gets laughs in almost every scene? How could that have enough weight to meet my weighty-show desires?

Boy was I wrong.

I think Leverage appeals to so many different genre audiences because it manages to hit the ticky box on so many different qualities:

writing – especially from S2 on – super tight plotting and scripting, with zingers of humor and poignance and pain in every scene

acting – both quality and massive variety

arcs – character arc, a balance of season-long arc, run-of-show-long arc; and fun one-offs that still hook in to the larger picture

it has a strong meta-narrative running on several different levels, from political commentary to poking fun at the conceits of the show itself.  The show is always thinking, even when it’s fun and funny.

It’s perfectly cast (who else could play Parker, I ask you) and they both enjoy the multi-character talents each actor can portray, and poke fun at the fact that their various level of grifter-talents aren’t going to stick the landing every time.  Having your actors act badly is a risk most shows don’t take 🙂

LEVERAGE – WATCH IT.  YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO MARATHON THE ENTIRE RUN OF THE SHOW IF YOU START NOW – GO GO!
