The new sneak peak is reminding me of when someone loses a spouse and people try to get them to move on from the death. You know get them back into the game again. Idk that’s what I took from it lol only thing is poor Sammy is failing because it’s way too soon for that and Deans like pls no thank-you I’m still raw✋🏼😂

Exactly.

Hes being sweet, hes trying! but he’s SO FAR OFF
THE MARK about

1. What Dean is upset about in the first place (as per all of 01-04 talking about Mary first when um no Dean has made it clear it’s Cas that’s upsetting him first and foremost)

2. The fact that coping mechanisms are not gonna cut it anymore and as an aside does he even know they’re coping mechanisms? Does he really not see this? Does he really think these things make Dean happy? I really kind of hope they’re not going there as that’s just sad for Sam…

3. The timing, it’s way too early for Dean to move on, he literally said that last episode dude

I keep waffling between the idea that Sam DOESN’T get it–that he’s confused or blind to Dean’s true grief–and the idea that he DOES get it, but is unsure how to raise the issue.

When I watched those scenes where Sam brings up Mary in relation to Dean’s grief, there seems to be a pause there, and an expectant look in his eyes, like he’s hoping Dean will contradict/correct him.

(I fully admit that I’m wearing some rose-tinted glasses when I watch the show, and it may be my own HC for Sam overshadowing his character’s actual actions and motivations!)

We all want the boys to start working on healthy coping mechanisms and communication, and while they’ve come FAR in 12 years, they def don’t have that worked out. I’ve read a lot of pretty negative Sam posts (not your’s, Tink!!) about how insensitive or OOC he seems, but honestly I feel like he’s exactly who a person in their mid-30s would be after years of isolation and extreme trauma. He can be capable of great empathy and compassion, but he lacks basic social skills at the same time. His friendships center on Dean and Cas…and the majority of the others who enter their lives tend to drift toward Dean.

The show has the running gag that Sam initiates “chick flick” moments and Dean begrudgingly allows them. But Dean is the one facilitating most of the emotional communicating. He led Amara and Chuck’s reunion and is usually brutally honest when telling others they’ve hurt him. It took a while for Dean to get to this point, but he did.

Sam’s rant in the therapist’s office was one of the first times we’ve heard him give an honest assessment of his own feelings in YEARS. He’s repressed all his trauma. And the show has given almost no space for him to work through it.

Lucifer? Toni’s mind rape? Becky? The dozens of others? There’s usually a quip and a “ya good?” while Dean slides him a beer…and Sam just smiles and nods.

So now that he sees Dean at HIS most devestated…I don’t know if Sam knows wtf to do except run thru the checklist of Dean’s usual coping skills. Beer, music, food, sex. I don’t think Sam is oblivious to Dean’s grief for Cas…I think he fears that digging into that wound directly could be explosive and he’s lost as to what to do. Instead, he brings up Mary–a painful, but easier topic for Dean.

TL;DR if the show would just allow Destiel to be blatantly canon, then maybe everyone could communicate better and sort through their shit in a healthy fashion. Also, Sam needs a therapist…and some more friends.
