âGod I hate how much I
love that bastard.âSam glances up from a
salad. As expected, Deanâs got a dopey look as he stares across the diner. Sam
doesnât need to follow his brotherâs gaze to know exactly whatâor rather whoâhas
put that lovesick look on his face, but he does anyway.Cas went to grab dessert
for the three of them from the counter, but heâs stopped along the way to help
a little girl holding a stuffed cat. Her shoe is untied, and he kneels next to
her and actually seems to be struggling with the tiny laces, but itâs super
sweet and Sam smiles. One former angel being adorable with a kid? Yep, thatâs
more than enough to explain Deanâs wide-eyed staring.âYou tell him that,
right?â Sam asks as he digs back into his salad. âThe loving him part. Not the
hating that you love him. You should actually probably leave that outââ He
dodges the rolled up napkin that Dean throws at him.Dean bristles at the
accusation. âCourse I tell him!ââGood.â Heâs not sure
who he feels more protective of in this relationship: his brother or his best
friend. Luckily he hasnât had to have the âyou hurt him, I hurt youâ talk with
either of them; since finally getting over whatever the hell it was keeping
them apart, both Dean and Cas have been extremely happy.Thank god. Heâd have
felt really bad about beating either of them up.Thereâs a pause, one
thatâs long enough for Sam to think the conversationâs over. Then Dean mumbles
something under his breath.âHuh?â He doesnât even
bother looking up.âI uh⊠I bought Cas a
ring. Like⊠an engagement ring?âOkay yeah, this is gonna
require him to put down his fork.Sam makes sure Dean sees
he has his full attention, then motions for him to continue.âI was thinking⊠I mean,
I know weâve only been together a few months, but⊠But weâve kinda been⊠For years
now, really⊠And I wanted⊠I figured maybe it was uhâtime? Maybe itâs stupidâââI think itâs a great,â
Sam interrupts his brotherâs babbling. The last thing he wants is for Dean to
get into his own head and back out. Cas is literally the best thing thatâs ever
happened to Dean, and it shows. Dean has never been so happy as heâs been the
past few months. And itâs not just Dean; Cas is smiling a lot more and doesnât
seem as plagued by self-doubt as he once did.âYeah?â Dean looks so
damn pleased at the encouragement. âI was thinking I take him to dinner and ask
then.ââDonât put the ring in a
champagne glass or anything. Cas would totally swallow it by accident.âDean waggles his
eyebrows. âOh trust me, Cas doesnât swallow by accidâââIf you finish that
sentence Iâm going to murder you in your sleep.âAfter a momentâs
consideration, Dean opens his mouth to keep talking, but Cas reclaims his seat
on the bench and Deanâs mouth shuts with an audible snap.âThey didnât have
whipped cream,â Cas says as he slides a plate of cherry pie towards Dean. âBut
they heated it up.ââThanks, babe.â
Sam watches as the two
of them share the pie. He canât see, but heâs pretty sure theyâre
holding hands under the table. And soon theyâll be getting married. Wow.It takes all of his self
control to keep from grinning like an idiot and giving away Deanâs upcoming
proposal. Heâs just so excited for them, though. They deserve all the happiness
in the world, and Sam honestly canât wait for them to get married. Theyâll
probably do a Vegas wedding with tons of drinking. Gambling and a strip
club go without saying (this is Deanâs wedding after all), and some
shows for Cas. Jody, Donna, and Garth will probably meet up with themâShit.
Whose best man is Sam
going to be?âYou ready, Sammy?â Dean
asks as he tosses some cash on the table to cover the meal.âHuh? Oh, right. Yeah,
letâs go.âGuess heâll let Cas and
Dean figure out that stuff. Right now he can just enjoy the fact that his two
favorite people are going to get married. Because Cas is definitely
saying yes and Sam is definitely taking them both out drinking to
celebrate. It takes Dean another month to work up the nerve
to actually ask.
