“God I hate how much I
love that bastard.”

Sam glances up from a
salad. As expected, Dean’s got a dopey look as he stares across the diner. Sam
doesn’t need to follow his brother’s gaze to know exactly what—or rather who—has
put that lovesick look on his face, but he does anyway.

Cas went to grab dessert
for the three of them from the counter, but he’s stopped along the way to help
a little girl holding a stuffed cat. Her shoe is untied, and he kneels next to
her and actually seems to be struggling with the tiny laces, but it’s super
sweet and Sam smiles. One former angel being adorable with a kid? Yep, that’s
more than enough to explain Dean’s wide-eyed staring.

“You tell him that,
right?” Sam asks as he digs back into his salad. “The loving him part. Not the
hating that you love him. You should actually probably leave that out—” He
dodges the rolled up napkin that Dean throws at him.

Dean bristles at the
accusation. “Course I tell him!”

“Good.” He’s not sure
who he feels more protective of in this relationship: his brother or his best
friend. Luckily he hasn’t had to have the ‘you hurt him, I hurt you’ talk with
either of them; since finally getting over whatever the hell it was keeping
them apart, both Dean and Cas have been extremely happy.

Thank god. He’d have
felt really bad about beating either of them up.

There’s a pause, one
that’s long enough for Sam to think the conversation’s over. Then Dean mumbles
something under his breath.

“Huh?” He doesn’t even
bother looking up.

“I uh
 I bought Cas a
ring. Like
 an engagement ring?”

Okay yeah, this is gonna
require him to put down his fork.

Sam makes sure Dean sees
he has his full attention, then motions for him to continue.

“I was thinking
 I mean,
I know we’ve only been together a few months, but
 But we’ve kinda been
 For years
now, really
 And I wanted
I figured maybe it was uh—time? Maybe it’s stupid—”

“I think it’s a great,”
Sam interrupts his brother’s babbling. The last thing he wants is for Dean to
get into his own head and back out. Cas is literally the best thing that’s ever
happened to Dean, and it shows. Dean has never been so happy as he’s been the
past few months. And it’s not just Dean; Cas is smiling a lot more and doesn’t
seem as plagued by self-doubt as he once did.

“Yeah?” Dean looks so
damn pleased at the encouragement. “I was thinking I take him to dinner and ask
then.”

“Don’t put the ring in a
champagne glass or anything. Cas would totally swallow it by accident.”

Dean waggles his
eyebrows. “Oh trust me, Cas doesn’t swallow by accid—”

“If you finish that
sentence I’m going to murder you in your sleep.”

After a moment’s
consideration, Dean opens his mouth to keep talking, but Cas reclaims his seat
on the bench and Dean’s mouth shuts with an audible snap.

“They didn’t have
whipped cream,” Cas says as he slides a plate of cherry pie towards Dean. “But
they heated it up.”

“Thanks, babe.”

Sam watches as the two
of them share the pie. He can’t see, but he’s pretty sure they’re
holding hands under the table. And soon they’ll be getting married. Wow.

It takes all of his self
control to keep from grinning like an idiot and giving away Dean’s upcoming
proposal. He’s just so excited for them, though. They deserve all the happiness
in the world, and Sam honestly can’t wait for them to get married. They’ll
probably do a Vegas wedding with tons of drinking. Gambling and a strip
club go without saying (this is Dean’s wedding after all), and some
shows for Cas. Jody, Donna, and Garth will probably meet up with them—

Shit.

Whose best man is Sam
going to be?

“You ready, Sammy?” Dean
asks as he tosses some cash on the table to cover the meal.

“Huh? Oh, right. Yeah,
let’s go.”

Guess he’ll let Cas and
Dean figure out that stuff. Right now he can just enjoy the fact that his two
favorite people are going to get married. Because Cas is definitely
saying yes and Sam is definitely taking them both out drinking to
celebrate.

It takes Dean another month to work up the nerve
to actually ask.

send me 3-5 emojis and i’ll write you a ficlet about them
