This might be a head canon but maybe not.
I watched 11.9 recently and its always hurt me that Sam gets panicky when he sees Lucifer coming, and he has to walk away. Now, I feel like Sam was scared he would see Lucifer’s true form again, but once he saw him in the old Nick suit, he could compose himself.
This revelation shed so much new light on things! Good job show!
Right? Sam noped out of there for a few seconds and then reluctantly returned, looked up, and steeled himself to look at Lucifer.
