Sam’s Problem (part 12)

emptywithout:

This is the final chapter. End of the story. Thanks to those of you who stuck with me. You’ve raised my confidence and I’ve gained friends and followers. Thank you all so so much.

There are plans for a new story coming very soon!

“Samuel Winchester, what have you
done?”

“Rowena?” Cas looked from Sam to Rowena, wondering what she
saw that he didn’t.

“I’ve never seen so much power from someone who isn’t a
witch. This could be dangerous, Castiel.”

“Rowena, I’m fine. Let me get Dean home.” Sam said,
exasperated.

Rowena took another step back from Sam as he started to move
towards the car.

“He’s not stable Castiel, he has no control over this.”

“What exactly does that mean, Rowena?” but Cas didn’t need
to ask. Just at that moment, Sam twitched again.

“What’s wrong with me?” Sam asked suddenly. He twitched again
and very nearly dropped Dean. Cas grabbed him before he hit the ground and quickly
touched his forehead, as Sam grabbed his head and collapsed to the ground. Dean
regain consciousness quickly after Cas used his grace, and he immediately
swooped to his younger brother, who now twitched every few seconds. He had no
control over his body. And then he cried out in pain.

“Rowena, do you know what’s going on here?” bellowed Dean. “Is
there anything you can do to help him?”

“Aye, I can help him. But it’s going to take some time. This
is not something he’s going to be rid of, I’m afraid.” She stayed a few feet
away, but did show concern over Sam’s state.

“You mean this is permanent?”
Rowena smiled gently and tentatively walked towards Sam, putting her hand on his
shoulder.

She whispered something in his ear that neither Cas nor Dean
could hear. Sam, still on the ground holding his head, nodded. He twitched
again.

Rowena stood up and smoothed her dress.

“Yes. Permanent I’m afraid. But I can help him control it. I
can show him how to live with it.”

“So what, Sam’s a witch now?” Cas asked curiously.

“No dearie, no one just ‘becomes’ a witch like that.” She
paused, looking from Dean to Cas and finally to Sam.

“I know Sam has had abilities in the past. He’s got powers
buried deep within him. I’ve told him before that I could help him. But
now…well, this is different.” She sounded almost sad.

“Well, what is ‘this’?” asked Dean, who was still on the
ground holding his brother. He was starting to lose his cool.

“I’ve only seen this once before.”

“And?” asked Dean

“And…well, let’s just say Samuel here is a lot stronger than
he was.”

Dean shook his head angrily. Sam was now twitching every few
seconds

“Cas, can you help him? He’s kinda losing it right now!”

Cas leaned over and touched Sam’s forehead. He stopped
twitching and went limp in Dean’s arms.

“Alright Rowena.
Let’s go.” Dean and Cas put Sam in the Impala, and Rowena climbed into
the backseat with him. She calmly placed her hands on the side of his face and
started chanting.

The drive home was practically silent.

(some weeks later)

“So…why did you suddenly become so powerful Sam? I saw you
break free from those chains. Those chains were magically binding. There’s no
way you could have broken free from that. You never showed signs of this kind
of power before.” Cas leaned across the table towards Sam, eager for some kind
of answer.

Sam turned to Cas. “It’s whatever it was he injected me
with. It enhanced the powers that were dormant in me. Like I said, I’d been
doing it for months. I was…keeping it a secret.  I guess it took anger to release it.” He
shrugged.

Dean continued for Sam, “Rowena won’t tell us what it was.
Apparently it’s addicting, and Sam’s still weaning off of it. It would be too
easy for him to just re-inject himself, if he ever really wanted to.”

“You mean you were injected with that…stuff…more than once?”

Sam stared off in the distance, his smile fading. “Yeah,” he
said quietly.

On the other side of the kitchen, Dean poured two glasses of
whiskey. He slowly walked toward his brother,  setting Sam’s drink down on the table, and
bringing his own back to the chair across from him.

Sam twitched again, and Dean noticed.

“Are you sure you’ve got this, Sam? It’s not a problem?”  Dean looked concerned.

“It’s ok Dean, it’s not a problem anymore.” Dean nodded and
smiled at his brother, raising his glass of whiskey.

It wasn’t a problem. Sam was just going to have to get used
to it.

Sam smiled back and opened his hand. The glass slid easily
across the table and into his waiting fingers.

Yeah, he’d get used to it.
