Desperate for any news on Supernatural. — Iain Sam is going to be put through the wringer toward the end of the season — and Jared Padalecki spent many hours in the makeup chair because of it. “Let’s say Sam Winchester goes through trials and tribulations that leave him pretty beat up,” the actor says. “And at the risk of getting fired, that’s as far as I’ll go with it, but it was a long time.”
aka ‘good shit’ because it was prompted by this post about how it’s good shit when the apparently selfish uncaring character proceeds to get themself wounded saving other characters and determinedly pretends they aren’t hurt because THEY DON’T CARE OKAY
3k words, casual Sabriel plus married Destiel but it’s really YOU ARE ALL MY FAMILY DAMMIT, also Gabriel and Castiel are dragons because why not.
Yeah, well, how about you drop us a line when you decide to think of anyone other than yourself, chuckles. Until then, stay the hell away from Cas and my brother.

Gabriel slammed the demon against the wall. Its claws scrabbled at his wrist, and he let his own claws slide out. They dug into its throat, golden and slender and hard as steel.
“You know what I am,” he said cheerfully. “So I’m guessing a bright little minion like you can guess what I’m here for. How about you tell me where they are nice and quick and I only incinerate you a little bit, huh?”
You’re my best friend, and I know you’re busy, but I haven’t heard from you recently and it’s kind of hard on me. I recently mailed you a large, very expensive gift. I feel a little awkward asking, but… did you receive it? When I saw it at Christie’s Auction House, I knew I had to get it for you in spite of the cost. I hope you’re silence isn’t because you thought it too extravagant. I suppose it’s possible it was lost or damaged in shipping or held up in customs… Maybe I’m overthinking it?
You also haven’t responded to any of the letters I sent you. Perhaps they were just too long? I’m sorry if I overshare or pour my heart out too much. Maybe I come across as too needy? Do you find me cloying? Does my attention smother you? You know I’ve never been very good with people. Or animals. I’m not great with plants or appliances either, to be honest. (But I don’t have to tell you that after the incident with the fern and the crockpot.)
Anyway, I’ll keep this short. PLEASE write back! I can’t help worrying about you. After sending the gifts and the novel-length letters and the numerous candy grams and voicemails and texts and DMs and Snaps I sent you, not hearing back has me worried. Are you okay? Have you been incapacitated? Incarcerated? Incontinent? I just want you to know, whatever it is, I’m always here for you. I’m here to lend a hand, pay your bail, or change your diaper. Consider me your sounding board and your shoulder to cry on. Lean on me until my back hurts.
Please write me back. (Or call or text: (323) 521-9159)
I miss you terribly.

P.S. it’s World Poetry Day. So, here’s a poem I wrote for you:
Good morning
This morning, for no reason,
Or maybe for some territorial primate reason,
I felt compelled to open the front door from the living room
And survey my yard and street and waking neighborhood.
I stepped into the shadow of the porch roof
The line of early sunlight
Cut just across my bare feet.
The manzanita leaves reflecting to a morning breeze
Down the block a banging, rolling
Delivery truck door.
Without thinking
Feet on the cold concrete
I said out loud “I love you world.”
Standing on my stoop.
I texted, just out of curiosity, but maybe now I’ll call to hear the voicemail as well…lol
I’m on The Toast talking about the linguistics of ship names in fandom:
Ship names are part of a broader phenomenon of blends in English, from Lewis Carroll’s slithy (slimy and lithe) to why we have brunch and smog rather than leckfast and foke. But people don’t actually go around creating blends all that often — one delightful study of English blends looked at 63 of them, from the well-formed guesstimate, mansplaining, and sexpert to the baffling fozzle (fog+drizzle), brinkles (bed+wrinkles), and wonut (waffle+donut). But while 63 is quite a large corpus when it comes to real-life blends, it’s nothing when it comes to fandom: there’s more than that in ship names from the cast of Glee alone.
The fannish culture that ship names are embedded in helps too. DiGirolamo points out that another way blends get created is for advertising campaigns, where they may become popular through sheer paid-for exposure even if they aren’t that great linguistically (see phablet). The fandom process is decentralized and democratic: a ship name lives or dies on its own merits. And while ad execs and literary punsters have a lot of flexibility in terms of whether they choose to use a blend or not, show creators don’t name their characters based on which combinations will make shippable blends, so ship names are also a unique opportunity to see how people cope with words that are seriously difficult to combine.
And that, my friends, is why we need fan-guistics.
1. Become aware of how and when you tearing yourself down.
2. Now that you can catch yourself doing it. Offer counters to the negative self talk. A really useful thing I read was to talk to yourself almost the way you would child. Gentle and patient. Even when they fuck up.
3. Take time to celebrate your small accomplishments. You’ve been attacking yourself for every little mistake. Apply that same fervor to the positive things in your life. Did the dishes even though you didn’t want to? Fuck yeah! Got up and took shower? YES!!! You are taking positive steps to feeling better. Celebrate it.
4. Make lists of things you’re good at/ like about yourself. The first time I did this the only two things in my list we’re that I liked my hair and I had good friends. It was start.
5. Don’t beat yourself up if you screw up steps 1-4. It’s counter productive. When I catch myself calling my self stupid for some mistake or other my response now is,“We don’t talk to ourselves like that anymore. What’s something constructive that could actually help solve the problem.”
Most of the time that seems to work. Not always. But more and more Everytime.
