BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project

In an attempt to complete the Trials to close the Gates of Hell, Sam and Dean originally dug up the defeated Abaddon to be their demon to cure. This turned out to be a monumentally stupid idea, as Abaddon escaped and set about resecuring a power base. Meanwhile, miffed that Sam killed one of his favorite hellhounds and none too pleased with their intentions of closing Hell for business, Crowley decided to give the Winchesters some “incentive” to drop the whole Trials thing– watching their friends drop instead. As a result, the brothers switched targets and Crowley came into their crosshairs.

POV — something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective

“Cas!” Dean actually slumped like a giant flannel-clad puppet with cut strings as the wayward angel picked up the call. “Fucking hell, Cas, where the hell are you?! I’ve been callin’ you for hours!”

“You mean you’ve been praying for hours,” Crowley muttered as he eyed the fancy decanter the Winchesters had sitting in this room. “You’re welcome, by the way.”

“We ain’t got time for this!” Dean snapped into the phone, though the glare was turned decidedly in Crowley’s direction. The former demon lifted his hands in placating surrender as Dean continued, presumably for Castiel’s benefit, “Sam needs your help! He completed the Trials and collapsed. His body’s still alive, but his soul is–” Dean broke off, frowning at whatever he had heard on the other end of the line. “How did you–”

Again he fell silent before finishing his sentence, but this time instead of puzzlement there was a brewing thundercloud of temper. Whatever Castiel was saying on the other end, it was more than obvious that Dean did not want to hear it. Abruptly, his expression shifted, anger giving way to indignation followed by alarm.

“Don’t you hang up on me, you asshole, I swear–!” Dean stopped and pulled the phone away from his ears, blinking at it in disbelief. “He hung up on me!”

*sobs*
