No. No no no no no.

Do not arm teachers. Public education is not a military institution. We did not choose this profession to fight violently. If we felt that some sort of combat or law enforcement profession was our calling, we would have done that. I am not cut out for that, and I don’t see that as a weakness or failing on my part. I would also make a terrible surgeon or pop singer or accountant. That’s ok: not everyone is cut out to teach, and there’s nothing wrong with that either.

I am an educator. I am not law enforcement, nor should I have to be to teach.

I teach reading and writing. I teach speaking.

I teach LISTENING.

I teach CRITICAL THINKING.

None of these require a gun. Quite honestly, if everyone is doing all of those things well, no one should need a gun.*

Agreed. I do not need, or want, nor should I have, a gun.

Wait, what month is it again???

Mmm…what a nice late spring day, perfect to sit on my patio and sketch or read some fanfic, or….

Karategirl reacts:

What do you mean it’s February???

Lately I’ve been really bothered by any variation of the phrase, “We don’t have to have sex now. We can wait as long as you need.” I get that it’s people trying to be respectful, but I feel pressured anyway? Like waiting implies there’s a definitive end you’re anticipating, so sex is a foregone conclusion. And then it just feels like I’m being scrutinized for signs that I’m “finally ready.” Ironically, I’m generally sex-neutral-to-favorable! But this phrase irks the shit out of me.

I agree… There’s a sense of expectation inherent in the phrase. Just a simple “or never” would be good to tack on the end. Or else clearly establish that you’re not interested in a sexless relationship.

So much this….
