There’s an AU out there in the vast expanse of the multiverse where Sam and Eileen are married and adopt Magda and I’m mad at Ketch that it’s never going to be a canon reality

elizabethrobertajones:

Hello welcome to the never forgive Ketch club :’)

But in the mean time, remember how they brought Magda back to the Bunker just to get herself sorted out and then she just kinda stayed and started doing online classes and yoga or whatever they figured was best for keeping those sort of powers in check, and then Eileen came in 12×17 and started living there too for her own protection from the BMoL and they really bonded and maybe she took Magda out on a couple of hunts because Magda was feeling more confident by then and also admired the heck out of Sam, and then Jack was born and they brought him back to the bunker and they became best friends and like, by now Eileen’s just Mrs Chief helping run the bunker and Magda hangs out laughing and joking with Maggie and Jack and that one friend Maggie had in 13×23 whose name I can’t remember and it’s all really sweet and fun and ….

I like that AU a lot. That’s a good AU.

It’s 11 pm. Go to bed, @thayerkerbasy

Look how loved I am. Thanks darling, on my way.

This should be a regular thing. At 11pm our time, we should all just get a personalized reminder to put the Tumblr down and go to bed. I’m not saying I would listen. Just that it would be nice.

Going to bed at a reasonable time is like the one adult thing I’m good at, haha.

Which is why I needed to schedule my post for @thayerkerbasy (psst it’s 11 pm again – go to bed) because I’m already passed out by then.

🖤

I need one of these and one that says, ‘Karate, did you eat dinner yet??“

Things Disaster Movies Always Get Wrong

We all love disaster movies! The cool special effects, the underdog stories, the underlying themes of hope. As cool as they are, they do tend to use misconceptions about natural disasters. This normally wouldn’t be an issue since Hollywood will always embellish but it’s important to know the true science behind these phenomena should you ever encounter them.

1) Pyroclastic flows will kill you almost instantly, you cannot survive a direct hit

Movies guilty of this: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dante’s Peak

Pyroclastic flows exceed 100km/h and reach temperatures over 1,000°C. You definitely cannot outrun it in either car or on foot. The boiling hot toxic gas, ash, and lava in the flow will kill you instantly and pummel your smoking corpse into oblivion. Sorry, Chris Pratt.

2) Tsunamis do not crest, they are more like a sudden flood than a wave

Movies guilty of this: Literally any movie with a tsunami ever

Tsunamis are massive and sudden floods caused by the displacement of ocean water due to earthquakes or massive landslides. They’re not tidal waves and thus do not crest. It’s poetic, but inaccurate.

3) Hail is always spherical and doesn’t fall in big cinder blocks of ice

Movies guilty of this: The Day After Tomorrow

Hail can get quite large and can definitely be fatal, but they are exclusively spherical. Hail is formed by water droplets cycling through the updrafts of a thunderstorm and the rotational movements make the resulting hail a ball.

Looks more like a stage hand is throwing the remains of an ice swan than a hail storm

4) You cannot freeze instantaneously. Not even in space.

Movies guilty of this: The Day After Tomorrow, Geostorm, The Cloverfield Paradox, Sunshine

Space, and certain places on Earth, can get exceedingly cold. The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth was −89.2 °C. That’s damn cold. But you still wouldn’t flash freeze into a peoplesicle within mere seconds. Intense cold can kill you quickly if you’re completely exposed but it would still take time before your body would be a thoroughly frozen chunk of meat. As for space, it can get quite cold, but it’s also an empty vacuum. There’s nothing around you but empty void, which means there’s also nothing to transfer your body heat away from you. Without convection, your body heat would be lost via radiation and that can take a long time.

5) Earthquakes over 10 on the Richter scale are physically impossible on Earth.

Movies guilty of this: 10.5

You would need a massive fault line to carry that sort of energy. Something on the scale of going through the earth’s core. Which does not exist . Even then, if such an earthquake would occur, the planet would literally explode.A 15 magnitude earthquake would release energy on the magnitude of 1×10^32 joules. That, coincidentally, is the same amount of energy contained in the gravitational binding of the Earth. Simply put, anything greater than 9.9 on the Richter scale is impossible and would cause the Earth to explode.

6) California will and can not sink into the Pacific like a big slab, and it can’t break away from the rest of the US.

Movies guilty of this: 2012, 10.5

Most movies cite the San Andreas fault as the reason for the cleavage, but even this isn’t enough. The San Andreas fault is a transform fault, meaning the North American plate and the Pacific Plate are slowly horizontally grinding past each other, not pushing away. As California is a part of the greater Pacific plate, it literally could not snap free from it to “sink into the sea”. Because if the entire tectonic plate underneath California where to flip over and sink then the entire ocean would drain away into the mantle.

7) You can’t sink in lava. You also can’t stand near it without being burned.

Movies guilty of this: Volcano, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Lava is molten rock, and is incredibly dense. In fact, it’s three times as dense as humans, who are mostly water. If you were to cannonball into a lava pit, you would dip in a bit before bouncing to the top and floating. You would also burn up and die super quickly. Because fresh lava can exceed 1,200°C! Even standing a couple feet away from a lava flow, you would feel the intense heat radiation. You would lose your eyebrows and probably the top layer of your skin if you stood too close. There’s a reason why volcanologists wear protective suits. Sam and Frodo would have been roasted.

Can we make one of this but with Anatomy, biology and microbiology facts against Horror and Slasher movies?? Some mistakes are funny to watch but they’re so common that they became annoying.

I was in a major depressive slump and only have 116 words… what do I do?

jimminovak:

So I’m assuming that you are talking about NaNoWriMo and I hope I’ll be able to help you. Now the #1 thing you should do is to write, obviously, but that’s not an answer you can do anything with. So I’m turning this into a bit of a general ‘things to help with nano’ post.

At this point, four days of writing, my word count is this:

Now, I’m very much ahead, and you might want to start throwing things across the room. But I’m not in any way able to win nano more than you. If I’d stop right now and you’d continue to write, you’d win, and I wouldn’t. But I can tell what helped me, what I struggle with, some motivation, etc. I don’t know if you’re writing fanfiction or anything, so examples will be based on my story, which is a destiel fic.

Mentality

The main, #1 thing I keep telling myself and which is very much helping me get through:

Allow yourself to write garbage.

Your story doesn’t have to be beautiful and perfect and good. It’s, for now, about quantity. Everything I’ve written right now is shit. I’m tryna write in a way that does not demotivate me, so I’m not just slamming words on the page. But please don’t worry about it. Here’s my first few sentences:

Honestly, there’s a lot wrong here. It doesn’t really make sense, grammar is off-ish, it could be written more eloquent and beautiful and I should use better synonyms and that ‘yourself’ is really off and… Well. Whatever. I just let it be like that. It’s been like that since I wrote it down four days ago and I haven’t changed it. I want to, because it’s shit, but that’s what December’s for. Writing a first draft is shoveling sand into a box so that later you can build castles (thanks Shannon Hale). It isn’t perfect and shouldn’t be.

I think realizing that what you get on paper isn’t supposed to be good or perfect in any way is the major key to me continuing to write.

Mental Stuff You Can Do

Write what you love.

Now, this sounds like a paradox, but let me explain. I want snow and Christmas vibes and more snow and Christmas vibes, so I made sure that is a constant and important theme throughout my fic. What do you want to read? What do you want to write? Don’t worry about what others like or how many times it’s been written, if you wanna write it, write it. This is more about the contents of your story than the way it’s been written (like what I talked about above). It helps if you write things you enjoy or look forward to writing. I desperately wanted to write 14×04-based Dean in this fic even though he’s a 19 y/o hunter at the beginning… so I put in a 15-year time skip and changed the outline to have it make sense. You can make it work.

Write for yourself, not for nano.

Do I think this fic is gonna end up at 50k? I’m afraid it’s gonna be shorter though I’ve been told it does seem like I’ll get it to 50k. I’m bad at gauging so we’ll see. But if it doesn’t end at 50k, I’ll just write random drabbles to make up for it. Write the thing you want to write, don’t write something just to get it to 50k. Even if you never end up reaching 50k, you wrote something for you and that’s way more important than that badge.

This post is hella important and you must read it and keep that in mind. Print it and put it on your wall or fridge or whatever. Keep this in mind.

Practical Stuff You Can Do

Talk about your story.

People are amazing with giving you new ideas or thoughts or point out flaws and issues in your story. Do it!!!!! Brainstorm with people!!!! It will get you going again. Promised.

Outline, or re-outline.

Doesn’t need to be long or anything. Just write down for yourself the things that have to happen/you want to happen, even if they’re small details. I only yesterday made this 5-point outline (or rather, someone else did while we were brainstorming), and I’m writing from point to point (tryna squeeze in 10k in between each.) It’s easier to have a few points to write towards, for me, at least.

Skip ahead.

Don’t know a scene or how to transition? Whatever. Just write the scene you know or feel super excited about. Pick those cherries, write what you feel like writing right now. Wanna write that smutty scene? Go for it. Wanna write the end? You go. It’ll get you in the writing zone.

Do some free writing!!!

Yes, do the writing you won’t end up using. Just write whatever comes to mind even if it’s just “this is shit and blah blah im a moose”. Just take 10 minutes or however long you wish to write whatever comes to mind. You can try to keep it related to your story but it doesn’t have to be. It will, also psychologically, break that blank-page fear and get you comfortable with writing things that aren’t perfect.

Sprint. Sprint. Sprint. Sprint.

If you write 417 words in a sprint, 4 times a day, you will reach your goal. Now, you have some words to catch up on, but it’s doable. Write for 30 minutes and write only, then stop, see how much you wrote. Try to beat yourself (or others, I’ll get onto that), see if you can write more than last time in the same amount of minutes.

Join my super awesome discord.

Self-promo! I have a destiel writers discord where we do a lot of sprints together and also have a nano chat where we cry and support each other. Idk if you’re a destiel writer but you should totally join if you are (don’t have to be writing destiel for nano though!)

Visuals and Audio.

I got a pinterest board with all the inspiration for this fic as I do with most long things I write. It’s super useful but make sure you don’t end up spending hours on pinterest (it happens). I stick pictures of the things in my draft as well, like:

Eek, another part of my horrible unedited bad first drafty writing… It’s just to get that creativity & inspiration going, and it helps.

For audio, I listen to calming christmas/winter vibe stuff, like this, also lots of christmas instrumentals, because that’s what works for my fic. But listen to whatever music kind of works for the vibes you’re going for. Listening to this music makes me feel like I should be writing. It helps.

This is so long Rose pls stop talking!!!

Okay I’m done. I could give more random small tips and things that help me, but I don’t want to bother you with too much, just hmu if you need more. Good luck, you can definitely get there.

However, if it’s affecting your mental health or yourself very negatively, don’t push yourself too much or burn yourself out. You come first.

Cadbury!Verse

Yes I’m doing this. Why? Because it’s my favorite fanfiction series ever and because you can’t stop me. This is a Supernatural fanfiction by UmbraeCalamitas, or @talkingtomyselfagain here on Tumblr. Before I start ranting about how much I adore this series, this is a Sabriel fanfiction though I recommend you read it even if you don’t like Sabriel just because the actual story is really amazing.

So, Sam is sent back in time by Castiel to try and prevent the Apocalypse from happening and gets sent back further than they (they being Sam, Dean, and Castiel) thought. All the way back to Stanford.

Because he’s just that great of a guy, he immediately gets knocked out and kidnapped by another college student (to be fair, he did just time travel) who then takes him as a sacrifice to Loki. Basically he manages to flirt his way out of being sacrificed (it was extremely entertaining) and then a thing happens. I’m not going to tell you what that thing is because you need to read this for yourself, but this was my not-very-brief summary for you.

Alright now for me talking. I’ve read this series about 5 times now since I first found it, which I’ve never done for any series except Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. Even then I only read it one other time. This series is just so addictive that I’ve actually gone through it in one sitting. Keep in mind that it is still being written and not yet completed, but don’t let that stop you (I certainly didn’t).

There’s also a spin-off written by @dreamhunter-trash including the characters from Merlin which I absolutely adore. I didn’t know it was possible for me to love fiction characters that much, but it is???

Bennie is the best teacher and I just love all the characters?? Poor Arthur’s job is rough.

There’s also Here, You are Home which I unfortunately haven’t read yet, but am definitely planning to. (It’s Avengers!)

AND THEY HAVE ASK BLOGS?!? @askthecamelotcrew and @askthecadburyegg

I could go on if I knew how to words, but I don’t. All you need to know is I absolutely love this entire universe and highly recommend you read it.

^^all of that
