Sam’s Problem (part 12)

emptywithout:

This is the final chapter. End of the story. Thanks to those of you who stuck with me. You’ve raised my confidence and I’ve gained friends and followers. Thank you all so so much.

There are plans for a new story coming very soon!

“Samuel Winchester, what have you
done?”

“Rowena?” Cas looked from Sam to Rowena, wondering what she
saw that he didn’t.

“I’ve never seen so much power from someone who isn’t a
witch. This could be dangerous, Castiel.”

“Rowena, I’m fine. Let me get Dean home.” Sam said,
exasperated.

Rowena took another step back from Sam as he started to move
towards the car.

“He’s not stable Castiel, he has no control over this.”

“What exactly does that mean, Rowena?” but Cas didn’t need
to ask. Just at that moment, Sam twitched again.

“What’s wrong with me?” Sam asked suddenly. He twitched again
and very nearly dropped Dean. Cas grabbed him before he hit the ground and quickly
touched his forehead, as Sam grabbed his head and collapsed to the ground. Dean
regain consciousness quickly after Cas used his grace, and he immediately
swooped to his younger brother, who now twitched every few seconds. He had no
control over his body. And then he cried out in pain.

“Rowena, do you know what’s going on here?” bellowed Dean. “Is
there anything you can do to help him?”

“Aye, I can help him. But it’s going to take some time. This
is not something he’s going to be rid of, I’m afraid.” She stayed a few feet
away, but did show concern over Sam’s state.

“You mean this is permanent?”
Rowena smiled gently and tentatively walked towards Sam, putting her hand on his
shoulder.

She whispered something in his ear that neither Cas nor Dean
could hear. Sam, still on the ground holding his head, nodded. He twitched
again.

Rowena stood up and smoothed her dress.

“Yes. Permanent I’m afraid. But I can help him control it. I
can show him how to live with it.”

“So what, Sam’s a witch now?” Cas asked curiously.

“No dearie, no one just ‘becomes’ a witch like that.” She
paused, looking from Dean to Cas and finally to Sam.

“I know Sam has had abilities in the past. He’s got powers
buried deep within him. I’ve told him before that I could help him. But
now…well, this is different.” She sounded almost sad.

“Well, what is ‘this’?” asked Dean, who was still on the
ground holding his brother. He was starting to lose his cool.

“I’ve only seen this once before.”

“And?” asked Dean

“And…well, let’s just say Samuel here is a lot stronger than
he was.”

Dean shook his head angrily. Sam was now twitching every few
seconds

“Cas, can you help him? He’s kinda losing it right now!”

Cas leaned over and touched Sam’s forehead. He stopped
twitching and went limp in Dean’s arms.

“Alright Rowena.
Let’s go.” Dean and Cas put Sam in the Impala, and Rowena climbed into
the backseat with him. She calmly placed her hands on the side of his face and
started chanting.

The drive home was practically silent.

*******

(some weeks later)

“So…why did you suddenly become so powerful Sam? I saw you
break free from those chains. Those chains were magically binding. There’s no
way you could have broken free from that. You never showed signs of this kind
of power before.” Cas leaned across the table towards Sam, eager for some kind
of answer.

Sam turned to Cas. “It’s whatever it was he injected me
with. It enhanced the powers that were dormant in me. Like I said, I’d been
doing it for months. I was…keeping it a secret.  I guess it took anger to release it.” He
shrugged.

Dean continued for Sam, “Rowena won’t tell us what it was.
Apparently it’s addicting, and Sam’s still weaning off of it. It would be too
easy for him to just re-inject himself, if he ever really wanted to.”

“You mean you were injected with that…stuff…more than once?”

Sam stared off in the distance, his smile fading. “Yeah,” he
said quietly.

On the other side of the kitchen, Dean poured two glasses of
whiskey. He slowly walked toward his brother,  setting Sam’s drink down on the table, and
bringing his own back to the chair across from him.

Sam twitched again, and Dean noticed.

“Are you sure you’ve got this, Sam? It’s not a problem?”  Dean looked concerned.

“It’s ok Dean, it’s not a problem anymore.” Dean nodded and
smiled at his brother, raising his glass of whiskey.

It wasn’t a problem. Sam was just going to have to get used
to it.

Sam smiled back and opened his hand. The glass slid easily
across the table and into his waiting fingers.

Yeah, he’d get used to it.

Sam’s Problem (part 10)

emptywithout:

Here it is folks. The penultimate chapter. We’re almost done. 🙂

Summary: Sam’s got a problem he’s not talking about. He’s shut out
both Cas and Dean, and is trying to solve it on his own. The trouble is, he’s
in way over his head. If he’s not careful, his whole life – and the life of his
brother – is going to be turned upside down. Will he be able to fix it before
someone gets seriously hurt? Or worse?

Warnings: Quick transitions, multiple POVs, hurt!sam

Ships: None in this story

Notes: For this story, Cas still has teleportation and other
angel-related capabilities.

This part is told in small chunks, as several people are
involved, and it is being told from their point of view. This is all meant to
happen very quickly, hence the quick transitions.

Dean kicked the
door open, gun ready. But standing directly in front of him was someone who was
clearly expecting him. Dean had no time to react. He knew the pain he felt down
to his core was a spell. Everything went black.

*  *  *  *  *

Cas was waiting outside, on the roof.
He was going to transport Sam back while Rowena and Dean drove. He had to be
sure he got Sam out of there and back to the bunker as soon as possible. He waited,
unsure of the exact time to go, as Sam was still warded. He couldn’t sense Sam
at all. He needed Rowena to remove the warding so he could grab Sam and go. He
waited…and waited. It was getting cold.

*  *  *  *  *

Rowena
waited outside the door behind Dean. He was going to kick it in and remove any
obstacles in the way so she could find Samuel and remove the warding. But the
moment he kicked the door open, she felt the presence of another witch. She
tried to grab Dean before he jumped into the room, but she was too late. The
door swung closed and she knew the whole plan was ruined. She had to figure out
a solution, and fast.

Sam cringed as he
remained chained to the table. His anxiety level was increasing. He could feel
the blood rushing in his ears. His shoulder was still in pain from the
injection. He was pretty sure whatever it was the man injected him with was something
to induce panic. It was working.

“No more games Sam.
You will help me.”

“No.”

“Listen.  It’s not up to you. You’re going to give your
powers over to us, or the consequences will be more than you can imagine.”

“You already have me, how much worse can it get. I’m not afraid
of torture.” Sam tried to keep the fact that he was in pain hidden. The man
scoffed.

“We’re gonna take those powers of yours, somehow. If it
means keeping you here and forcing you to do our will, so be it. But then you’ll
be here for the rest of your life.”

“You forgot about my brother.” Sam smirked. He knew Dean was
already looking for him. Despite his increasing fear, he knew his brother would
get there soon.

“Oh, we haven’t forgotten Dean. We’re expecting him any
moment. Him and his foolish friends.” His words sent a shiver down Sam’s spine.

The man paused and looked up at the ceiling.

“Actually, they’re here now. Excuse me while I go greet our
guests. I’d like to be there to welcome them at the door.”

Sam lost it.

“NO!! DEAN! NO!” He struggled
with all his might, but it was no use. Sam knew by now the chains were held in
place with magic. Only magic could remove them.

*  *  *  *  *

Rowena returned
to the Impala and grabbed her bag. She was going to have to improvise.

“Damn you Dean Winchester and your impulsive behavior!” She
rummaged through the materials until she found what she was looking for.

“It’s rudimentary, but it will have to do.” She pulled out a
small vile of powder and sprinkled some onto her hand. Chanting in a language
neither Winchester would understand, she blew the dust into the air, towards
the roof of the building.

She only hoped Cas would get close enough to Sam to help.
This spell had a knack for being…inaccurate. She held her breath and waited.

*  *  *  *  *

Cas sensed Rowena’s magic. Sam’s
warding didn’t quite disappear, but he felt a pull toward the younger
Winchester. A pull he couldn’t resist. Without warning, he was transported to
Sam’s location. The transport left him dizzy. He had never traveled by witch
powder before. He landed on the ground of a room that was made of stone. He was
disoriented, but he stood quickly, and across the room, about 30 yards away, he saw Sam chained to a
table. Just then, a man walked into the room, directly behind Sam.  Cas reached out towards Sam and –

*  *  *  *  *

Sam only had to
wait a few moments before the man returned. He still had never seen his face.
The man made sure to stay well behind Sam’s head, out of his peripheral vision.

And then something happened that neither man was
expecting.  Sam’s panic had turned into anger.
He felt it building up inside him when the man went to get Dean.

“NOOO!!” Sam screamed at the top of his lungs.  The table that Sam had been chained to
lurched forward, until he was in somewhat of a standing positing, the table
resting on the ground at a slight angle. The man gasped.

“I knew it!”

Anger and rage
built up like never before and Sam felt a surge of energy. He pulled his wrists
free and swung quickly to his right. He hit his captor square in the face,
knocking him to the ground. The man fell motionless to the cold floor. He reached down and simply pulled the chains free
from around his ankles. He stood, teeth clenched, sweat dripping from his
forehead, bare feet hitting the cold stone floor. He was breathing heavily. But
Sam’s focus was only on one thing.

Dean.

Castiel is playing in his first NHL season when he meets Dean, a model who has just broken into the industry. He goes home with Dean, because it’s easy, and they keep hooking up, because it makes sense. They’re two, busy people who travel all the time, and it’s not like he’s looking for anything serious – until he does and he wants it with Dean, who’s become his best friend and the love of his life. Life, however, is no fairy tale, and when Dean starts dating for real, Cas lets him go because he loves him. He comes to terms with his broken heart, resigned to however much time he’ll need to mend it, but then Dean is left at the altar at his own wedding and asks if Cas will come with him on his honeymoon.
