Summary:
For some of us, it’s easy, close your eyes, take a breath, and jump. For others, it takes an entire bottle of whiskey, a slow, unreliable internet connection, and years of self-induced isolation on a picturesque mountainside to do what they have to do. What they need to do. Many years after losing his own pack, his family, an act he blames himself for, Alpha-Were Castiel is skilled at not giving himself even the smallest of pleasures, including that of a pack. An alpha needs a pack. It’s written into their DNA. It’s so much more than just having a mate. It’s the pack bonds that make an alpha whole, and the longer Castiel denies himself one, the more he loses of his humanity.

When a drunken, desperate act brings a beautiful, vibrant omega to his doorstep with a disastrous winter storm nipping at his heels, Castiel knows he does not deserve the gift. Sending Dean back down the mountain would be certain death for the young were, but allowing him to stay will undoubtedly change Castiel’s life forever. Maybe it’s time for Castiel to leave his darkness in the past, where it belongs. With Dean standing next to him on the precipice, there’s nothing left for Castiel to do but close his eyes, take a breath, and leap.

The Graveyard Shift – Chapter 36

riseofthefallenone:

Dean’s favourite coffee shop, The Graveyard Shift, is only open after the sun goes down. Which is perfect for him, because that’s exactly when he craves coffee the most while doing the overnight at the fire hall. The coffee shop’s owner is pretty perfect too, but it’s kind of a bummer that Dean never gets to see Cas during the day. In a world where the supernatural live more or less in peace with the rest of humanity, it’s a little impolite to ask Cas just what he really is – or what his dark past entails.

The Graveyard Shift – Chapter 36

Chapter Three: The Residence

Michael invited him to dinner.

Castiel’s years in med school had taught him to never pass down a free meal—Michael would certainly insist on paying as some sort of weird power move—so he accepted, as much as he didn’t want to sit across the table from a man he hadn’t spoken to properly in more than a decade and pretend that they were brothers.

He spent the few hours before dinner pacing around his hotel room, trying to get his thoughts in order.  He didn’t necessarily want the responsibility of raising a kid.  God knew didn’t manage to feed himself half the time, much less someone else.  Much less his sister’s son.  But at the same time, he knew Michael had to have an angle.

He never did anything without one.

He hadn’t brought any suit jackets.  He should have known that Michael would show up and turn literally everything into a formal situation, but he hadn’t prepared for it.  Instead, he toyed with the few ties he’d brought and eventually decided to go without.  He’d get the added bonus of the horror on Michael’s face at what he was wearing.

“You’re looking…sharp,” Michael said when Castiel walked into the restaurant.

Castiel normally ate at places with the kind of flickery fluorescent light that cast an odd blue-green glow over your food.  The warm golden candlelight seemed entirely too mellow for him.  Still.  He wasn’t about to force Michael to eat at a restaurant below his standards.

Castiel didn’t bother with the small talk as he slid into his seat.  Velvet cushions.  Really?

“What is your endgame here?”

Michael spread his napkin out over his lap and smoothed it flat, no wrinkles.

“Castiel, please.  What exactly do you think I am?”

August 2nd is so far away……*sniffs*

A Destiel AU.

Chapter One: Air Force Down

Bzzz.  Bzzzzzz.  Bzzzzzzzzz.

Castiel groaned as he flopped over on to his stomach.   The crick in his neck—no matter how much yoga he did he couldn’t ever seem to wake up without it—complained loudly as he fumbled for his phone in the semidarkness.  He managed to knock over the glass of water on his bedside table and the top three books on his stack before he reached it.

The background of his phone—one of his plants in particularly good lighting in the lab that day—was completely obscured.  Castiel squinted down at the too-bright light, preparing to send Meg a flurry of angry texts, but the little notifications weren’t from text messages.  Castiel snatched his reading glasses up and shoved them on his nose.  The blurry text cleared.

The Washington Post: Air Force One Encounters Engine Trouble.

New York Times: Air Force One in Trouble Over Pacific.

And so on, a dozen little notifications with more popping up every time he scrolled down.  With every single little buzz of his phone, tension’s tight fingers clamped harder on Castiel’s heart until it felt like it had in high school what felt like a million years ago, like it was going to beat out of his chest.

Finally, a text.

Meg: Clarence, don’t turn on the TV.

Numbly, Castiel watched notifications come one after the other as every major news network in the world realized the same thing.

Air Force One had crashed with the President on board.

It’s nicer up here.

So, @beingcouy and I wrote a silly, fluffy little script format story to go with this picture and the other merfolk pics of Team Free Will. It’s below the cut if you want to read it.

The story features liberal use of text emoji faces, tiny hearts, and the ships Destiel and Mooseley.

The wing tentacles have a mind of their own…or Cas pretends they do. This is a commission for the awesome @omgbubblesomg – thank you, what a fun one! ❤

I did a callout for prompts and one of them reminded me of this beaut of a pic.

@sans–seraph I found this in my drafts, sorry for the wait. @threshie I’m sorry I made your artwork so handsy (I’m not).

Drunk drabbles 3.0

“I told you, I don’t have total control over them.”

Dean dug one of the thinner tentacles out from beneath his shirt, where it was teasing around a nipple. “Are you even trying to stop them?” With his hands occupied a second tentacle took the opportunity to wrap around his bicep and sucker gently to the skin. “Cas!”

Cas extricated the tentacles winding through Dean’s hair, but conveniently ignored the others. “They just want to be near you. I can’t keep them dormant all the time.”

“I’m trying to work!”

“Just ignore them?”

“You try ignoring this!” Dean shoved one of the thicker tentacles with his foot. It curled in on itself as though it had been caught stealing cookies, instead of sneaking under Dean’s chair towards the opening of his trouser legs. “I know what you’re up to,” he warned it. “And I’ve got my eyes on you.” It slunk away like a kicked puppy.

“Well there’s no need to be rude.” Cas plonked a cup of coffee at his elbow and reached down to cradle the guilty tentacle. It curled up under his shoulders with the rest of his wings (or ‘interdimensional appendages’ or whatever Dean was supposed to call them).

Dean rolled his eyes but crooked a finger at the closest tentacle, petting it in apology. It knotted around his wrist and squeezed playfully.

Cas kissed the top of his head as the rest of the tentacles unwound themselves from their various Dean hiding spots.

“Don’t stay up too late,” Cas told him. “And no more coffee after this one.”

Dean tipped his chair back to get the next kiss on his lips. “One more hour,” he promised. “And then they get to play all they want.”

Awww, the wing tentacles really DO have a mind of their own, like Medusa’s snakes. This is adorable. I especially love that Dean pets one to apologize. Cuuuute. ♥
