Here, You Are Home | Chapter Eight: I Hear Your Words in Mournful Cadence Toll

talkingtomyselfagain:

Chapter Summary: It is difficult to come to terms with the death of a loved one.

MAJOR tissue warning for this chapter. This deals heavily with grief and mourning, acceptance of someone being gone, and what it means to no longer have access to them in your life. Please be kind to yourself.

Titles comes from “The End,” a poem by Amy Lowell.

Here, You Are Home

talkingtomyselfagain:

When Tony Stark opened his tower to the other members of the Avengers, he expected it would make assembling easier and get Fury to stop glaring at him like an angry, pirate cyclops. He didn’t expect to become friends with these people, much less family, but there was no other words for how they fit together. He didn’t think there was a person in the universe brave enough to ask if Natasha Romanov was the mom (besides, Tony was pretty sure if there was a mom, it was Nick Fury).

Regardless of his expectations, though, they become a team, and friends, and then family.

And then a mission goes wrong and Clint Barton dies, leaving the rest of the Avengers struggling to stay together against the force of their grief.

In a prison deep underground, Clint Barton wakes up, alive, and he’s not alone. If Thor made it back to Asgard, he arrived without his brother.

With Thor trapped in Asgard and the rest of the Avengers believing Clint dead, the two enemies have to work together to survive and escape. They may manage to save each other, their families, and the entire universe, if they don’t kill each other first.

Summary:

Loki of Asgard had not felt a summoning in a very, very long time. He’d thought the spells lost – the people who once worshiped him, a minor trickster god, long gone. Yet time hadn’t dulled his senses. Loki knew what it was that called to him as he walked through the forests near his home.

It was the whim of a moment to decide to follow that summoning and see where it went. All a summoning could do was alert Loki that someone wanted him. It couldn’t force him there. That had always been up to the one being called. But Loki’s morning was slow, and the summoning was interesting. It held actual power to it. Not just the power given by a simple spell cast by a worshiper – this person was no worshiper. There was no faith behind the spell. There was, however, blood. Blood had been used in the spell, and it carried to it the kind of natural power that spoke of more than a simple Midgardian should possess.

Loki reached out to his seidr and let it guide him through the secret paths of Yggdrasil that took him down to Midgard.

When he arrives, what he finds isn’t at all what he’d expected.
