Where’s Dean?

emptywithout:

This is all I had in me tonight guys. I’m just too drained to do much more…

Dean’s fist swung hard and connected with Sam’s jaw. He went
down, hard.

Sam’s hand went up automatically in self-defense.

But Dean had pummeled into him until his eyes were bloodied,
his cheek split open, his breath coming in sharp gasps. But Sam had refused to
fight back. He never raised a hand to his older brother as Dean cracked his
jaw, sending sparks to the corners of his eyes.

“Dean,” he said. It was simple, it was quiet.  It wasn’t enough.

“Dean, this isn’t you. Please.” He tried again.

Dean smiled. “Oh Sammy, I have to disagree.” He leaned in
close to his brother, until Sam could feel his breath He gently caressed his
brother’s cheek, running his thumb across the broken skin. “This is the most me
I have ever been.”

Sam was near losing consciousness. He wouldn’t be able to
take much more of this beating.

Which is why he welcomed the final punch that sent him into
darkness.

_____

The bruising on his cheek took over a week to heal. The deep
purples and blues had faded into greens and yellows. By the time Cas returned, the
cut had healed into a nice thin scar running just below his eye.

When Cas saw him on the couch, he ran over to him, nearly
tripping on his way.

“Sam! What happened? Where’s Dean?” Sam jumped when Cas’
thumb touched his cheek, right where Dean had.

“It’s a long story Cas,” said Sam, holding his ribs and
grimacing as he sat up. “I’m glad you’re home.”

Darkness (part 3)

emptywithout:

Dean struggled against his unseen
attacker, but whoever – or whatever – it was, was much stronger.

 “Sam!” Dean yelled, still
struggling. “Sammy! Please!”  His
attacker stood firm, unmoved by Dean’s attempts to pull free. Sam lay still in
the darkness, leaving Dean alone with the unknown man. But the man didn’t try
to hurt Dean. He just held him still.

“Dammit, who are you? What did you
do to Sam? Where are we?”

The man just laughed. The laugh was familiar.

 “Crowley?” Dean said, stunned.

“In the flesh,” said the demon, as
he set Dean down back on the ground. “At least I think it’s flesh. I can’t see
a bloody thing around here.”

Dean was mostly too shocked at
seeing – well, hearing – Crowley again, so he just said, “where the hell are
we?”

“It’s not hell, that’s for sure. But
I think you know where we are, Dean. I think you’ve known since you got here.”

“Shit.” said Dean softly. He knelt
down and felt around for his brother. He found him right by his feet, still
breathing, still unresponsive. Dean reached up and grabbed Crowley’s jacket,
pulling him down beside him.

“What’s wrong with Sam?” asked Dean
softly. “He won’t wake up.”

Crowley put his hand out and found
Dean’s, who led him to Sam’s body.
Crowley touched him, trying to get a feel for something.

“Do you even have any power here?”

Crowley merely sighed. “Not that I’ve
found yet. But I’ll try what I can for Moose here.”

Dean lifted Sam’s head and placed it
in his lap, brushing back his hair and hoping he would just wake up.

 Time passed strangely here. Neither
Dean nor Crowley could determine how long they had been here.

“Did you not make it out of that
blasted apocalypse world? My sacrifice was for nothing?”

“No Crowley. You’ve been dead almost
a year. We made it out. So did Lucifer. Actually, it’s a long story.”

 “Apparently we have time.” Crowley
paused. “A year? Bloody hell.” He removed his hand from Sam and patted Dean on
the shoulder.

In the pitch dark of The Empty, Dean
sat quietly, his brother’s head in his lap. Crowley sat beside him and sighed.

Eternity was going to be one hell of
a long time.
