Sam’s brain is the most wonderful place. He’s just like, “Well, this guy is immortal on his property and he’s set (otherwise) deadly traps in the area to make sure no one gets to his treasures, so we’ll just have him do the thing and we’ll reap the benefits, be able to find Jack, and this guy will survive anyway.” He minimized damage while still making sure they got what they wanted.
